Rotary looking for youth interested in foreign exchange

The first of three information sessions on the Rotary Youth Exchange program was held in Grande Prairie Wednesday night.

Through it, youth aged 15 to 17 have the opportunity to experience a new culture by spending time in a foreign country.

Rotarian Monica Kreiner says they’ll spend a year with another family learning a new language and making lifelong friendships.

“Learning how other people think and do things is a way of making that world smaller, and learning about how cultural differences can work together in our world to enrich everybody.”

Between preparing to go, the exchange itself, and helping the next group get ready, Kreiner says it’s a three year commitment.

The main expenses of the exchange are covered by Rotary.

The next meeting is set for October 9th in the Rotary Room at the library, with the last on October 19th, both at 7 p.m.
