City now accepting applications for neighbourhood rinks

Ever thought about building an ice rink in your neighbourhood? Now’s your chance. The City of Grande Prairie is now accepting applications for the Neighbourhood Outdoor Rink Program.

The free program provides people living in Grande Prairie with the supplies needed to install and maintain small rinks for skating only in parks near their homes. Parks Operations will provide training on how to build the rink and clean the ice. It will also complete monthly checks on the rinks.

To apply, each neighbourhood will need a minimum of five committed volunteers to work on the rink and have a location already in mind. The city recommends that all rinks be built before the ground freezes but applications can still be submitted until December 15th.

Applications can be found on the city’s website and can be sent in or dropped off in person to the City Services Centre in Grande Prairie.
