Grande Prairie tax protester given 15 month jail sentence

A Grande Prairie man has been sentenced to 15 months in prison and fined $40,000 for tax evasion.

Canada Revenue Agency says 64 year old Edwin McCallum Siggelkow was found guilty earlier this month of evading federal income taxes between 2005 and 2007, and helping others to commit fraud.

He also didn’t collect GST on nearly $13,000 for those three years.

Siggelkow is associated with the Paradigm Education Group, operated by Russell Porisky, who was convicted of similar charges in 2013.

He advocated that working Canadians were being taxed as “artificial persons”, so if they declared themselves a “natural person” they didn’t need to pay taxes.

Siggelkow is also known for running for the Canadian Action Party in 2008.
