GP woman out of Thai prison

The Grande Prairie woman accused of spray-painting an ancient brick wall in Thailand is free for now. CBC News confirms 23-year-old Brittney Schneider was released on bail Monday.

She was arrested last week with her friend Furlong Lee, another 23-year-old from Liverpool, England. Surveillance footage from last Thursday shows Lee writing “Scouser Lee” on the main entrance to northern Bangkok’s old town, and Schneider writing the letter “B”.

Schneider has told the CBC that she was drunk at the time and didn’t know the wall was historically significant. The pair was arrested the next day.

The GP woman has been charged with vandalism, which could come with fines of up to $40,000 CAD and up to 10 years in prison. She will have to stay in Thailand until her trial and has been joined by her mother and aunt.
