Local woman arrested in Thailand

A 23-year-old Grande Prairie woman could face up to 10 years in prison for spray-painting on an ancient wall in Bangkok, Thailand.
CBC Edmonton reports that security camera footage allegedly shows Brittney Schneider and her friend Lee Furlong, who is from the UK, painting a brick wall near the Tha Phae Gate, the main entrance to the city’s old town.

Both were arrested on October 18th and charged with vandalizing registered ancient artifacts. That charge carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison and a fine of a million baht, which is $40,234.00 Canadian.

The CBC reports bail money has been sent to Thailand by Schneider’s mother but she will have to stay in Thailand until she goes to trial. A GoFundMe page for the woman’s bills has been set up.
