Wildfire hazard bumped to moderate as season winds down

People in the Grande Prairie area still have to worry about starting wildfires. The hazard in the region has increased to moderate with less than two weeks left in the season.

Alberta’s wildfire season runs from March 1st to October 31st. During that time, permits are needed for any burning in the Grande Prairie Forest Area other than campfires.

Wildfire Information Officer Kelly Burke says residents can also take this time to do things to protect their homes from wildfires in the spring. They include cleaning out gutters, mowing grass and raking up leaves, and moving firewood at least 10 metres away from any buildings.
