Public cannabis consumption banned in Beaverlodge

While recreational weed is now legal, you’ll have a hard time finding anyone smoking it in Beaverlodge. Like most other communities in the Peace country, the town banned the public consumption of cannabis. Residents are only allowed to smoke on their private property.

An exception is made for medicinal users, but they still need to keep five metres away from places like playgrounds, sports fields, walking trails and any public facilities. They must carry medical documents on them in case they are asked for by an officer.

Other communities like Fairview, Wembley, Sexsmith, and Valleyview have also banned public consumption. The City of Grande Prairie bucked the trend, allowing smoking on public streets and in parking lots other than in the downtown core.
