New bus added to regional bus service fleet

People using the new regional bus service will be riding in style. The County of Grande Prairie has agreed to purchase a new bus for its upcoming route. Grande West Transportation will supply the bus which will cost the county $384,000. It will be paid for by the Green-Trip grant the County received from the Province.

The goal of the two-year transit project is to link people in rural areas to places where they can receive services they may not have access to. It will be rolled out in two parts.

The first phase will connect people in Sexsmith and Clairmont to the City of Grande Prairie. County Reeve Leanne Beaupre said previously that phase would be up and running by this fall but City Transit Services Manager Steve Harvard says things still need to be approved before they can move forward.

The second phase will see buses travel between the City and Towns of Beaverlodge and Wembley and the Village of Hythe. That route is expected to be up and running by early 2019.
