Nitehawk Comedy Night fundraiser just around the corner

Erica Sigurdson and Jebb Fink are the two names headlining this year’s Comedy Night at Five Mile Hall, a yearly fundraising for the Nitehawk Recreation Area.

The funds raised go towards making the hill’s first snow of the season, which Assistant General Manager Johnathan Clarkson says isn’t far off.

“That snow that we got two weeks ago was a bit of a wake up call. We looked at the calender, and we’re actually only 9 weeks out. Our targeted seasonal soft opening is November 14. We typically open with the tube zone, a couple runs and the terrain park.”

Clarkson says the comedy night fundraiser plays an important role in making sure they are able to cover the cost of opening the hill each year.

“We spend about $250,000 every year on snow making to get the hill covered for the season, so it’s a huge risk to take with no real guarantee of return on that because of mother nature. Sometimes it can be to cold, or like last year when we saw temperatures warm up in January.”

Clarkson says so far they have sold about 320 of their 400 tickets, which are $60 apiece.
