Heritage Village closed after construction worker hospitalized

The Heritage Village at the Grande Prairie Museum should reopen for Alberta Culture Days this weekend. It has been closed for the past several days due to an incident that sent a construction worker to hospital.

The City of Grande Prairie says one of the subcontractors on-site suffered a head injury on September 20th and had to be airlifted for treatment in Edmonton. They have since been released and are reportedly recovering well. In the meantime, the Heritage Village was shut off to visitors and school tours.

“With ongoing construction in the Heritage Village, the Grande Prairie Museum has closed the Village this week to ensure the safety of all visitors,” explains Manager of Sports Development, Wellness and Culture Karen McGriskin. “Weather permitting, the Village will re-open this weekend for Alberta Culture Days.”

The nature of what caused the injury has not been disclosed. Alberta Occupational Health & Safety says it has not received an incident report, which the City says would be up to the contractor to file.
