Alberta Culture Days showcases and celebrates local artists

Alberta Culture Days are officially in full swing around the province, including here in Grande Prairie where there are 15 events planned for the weekend.

One of those events is the album release tomorrow evening at the Showcase Centre for local reggae band Tasman Jude.

Front man Caleb Hart says they made the conscious choice to coincide the release of ‘Green’ with Culture Days.

“Grande Prairie is so supportive of us, so I knew that not as many people would get to come because there are so many things going on, but I just wanted it to be on that booklet. I wanted it to be a part of Culture Days, so when we look back, we can remember that our first full length album was released on this day, just in Grande Prairie, strictly for that reason.”

Hart says being from here, and being a part of not only in Culture days, but in the Grande Prairie art scene is a special privilege.

“It blows my mind. Grande Prairie is a city of 55,000 people, and so far away from everything. Whether it be music, paintings, photography, dance, theatre, all those different types of art are supported so much.”

Other events happening around the city this weekend include the wearable fashion show, also tomorrow evening at the Centre for Creative Arts, and the Reel Shorts Time Warp package tonight from 7-9 at the GPRC.

A full list of events is available here.
