Navigators to honour former coach at home opener

Darcy Haugan will be featured at the North Peace Navigators home opener on Saturday. They will be honouring his life as well as the contributions he has made to the team during a pregame ceremony at the Baytex Energy Centre.

The Peace River native was the coach of the Navigators for 12 years before becoming head coach of the Humboldt Broncos in 2015. He was one of 16 people killed in April when the Broncos team bus was hit by a semi-truck near Tisdale, Saskatchewan.

Navigators Presidents Albert Cooper said in a Facebook post that the event will be used as a way to carry on Haugan’s Legacy.

“Although this will be an evening tinged with sorrow, we also want to remember that the greatest tribute we can pay to Darcy is to continue to develop the Navigator program in such a way that remembers and continues the Vision that Darcy had such a part in developing.”
