One of the runways at the Grande Prairie Airport had to be closed Tuesday night. In a Facebook post, the airport said a plane was dealing with a mechanical issue and would have to be removed.
The issue wasn’t specified, but an unconfirmed report on social media indicated the plane may have gotten a flat tire before takeoff. Nav Canada recorded the closure of runway 12/30 at 7:39 p.m., not long after the scheduled 7 p.m. departure of Westjet flight 3142 to Edmonton.

The airport says the closure shouldn’t have affected operations as the second runway stayed open. We hope to learn more from the airport and airline Wednesday.
