Locally co-owned wins third race in 33 days

A horse with connections to Grande Prairie has made history again. Sky Promise won the B.C. Derby at Hastings Park on September 8 bringing his win total to three wins in 33 days. Co-owner of Sky Promise and Grande Prairie local Norm Tremblay says this is the first time something like this has happened.

“It’s the first time ever that the same horse can combine three big wins in 33 days in three time zones so it’s been huge. We came into the BC derby and there were some horses that had been rested for probably a month before that race…and we managed to beat them all.”

The win came two weeks after Sky Promise took home top spot at the Canadian Derby at Northlands Park in Edmonton and the Manitoba Derby at Assiniboia Downs in Winnipeg. Tremblay hopes the next prize they can bring home is the award for 3-year-old Colt of the Year in Canada.

“It’s an acknowledgement of what your horse has accomplished. It’s the first time ever this has happened in these three big derbies in western Canada that the same horse wins… so we’re hoping Canada sees or the horse racing world sees what this horse has accomplished already.”

Sky Promise has now won four races in his lifetime. He is currently resting at Emerald Downs in Seattle and Tremblay hopes he will be ready to race for the last time this year in New Mexico at the end of November.
