Grande Prairie residents looking to register their bikes with the city can do so this Saturday. The city has partnered with Ernie’s Sports Experts to bring the event to the area.
Enforcement officers will be in the Ernie’s parking lot from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on September 15 to take pictures of bikes and help residents with the registration process.
The city has been experiencing a recent spike in property crime and will use the bike registry to return lost or stolen bikes to their owners.
Grande Prairie RCMP Operations Officer Inspector John Respet says it’s hard to return bikes to the proper people if they are not registered because there’s no way to prove who actually owns them.
Residents who are unable to attend the event can also register them online.
