Western Alberta unemployment rate drops slightly

The unemployment rate in western Alberta continues to hover around where it was a year ago. It dropped 0.1 cent in August to 5.9 per cent. It was six per cent in July, as well as August 2017. The numbers aren’t seasonally adjusted.

Canada’s unemployment rate is going against the grain as part-time jobs dipped last month. Statistics Canada reports the rate pushed to six per cent as the country shed 92,000 part-time positions. Canadian economists had predicted the rate would drop to 5-point-9 per cent on an increase of 5-thousand jobs.

Alberta’s unemployment rate held steady at 6.7 per cent.
