Security guard sentenced on child porn charges

A Grande Prairie security guard has been handed an 18-month sentence for child pornography charges. Brian Hanly was sentenced in court on August 30th and was also given a 24-month probation for after his release.

The then-46-year-old was charged with possession of child pornography and making child pornography available on October 2, 2017. An investigation was started after a tip was made to the National Child Exploitation Coordination Centre in Ottawa. It led to the search of a home on the northeast side of Grande Prairie.

At the time, RCMP said Hanly worked as a contracted security guard in a local high school and other city facilities. The Grande Prairie Public School District confirmed he worked for Apex Security and was contracted as the main security guard at Charles Spencer High School since it opened in September 2014.

Apex is also contracted to do security for places like the Eastlink Centre, Coca Cola Centre, and the Grande Prairie Public Library. Mounties have said they don’t believe any local children were exploited.
