Kilo of marijuana found in GP drug bust

Local police say they have seized a large amount of drugs and cash from two homes in Grande Prairie. The RCMP Drug Unit worked with Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams, Police Dog Services, and other Grande Prarie members to search the homes on August 24th.

Among their haul was roughly a kilogram of marijuana, 122 grams of cocaine, 24 grams of heroin, 62 tabs of LSD, and 28 tablets of Oxycontin. Mounties say they also found a small amount of fentanyl, a loaded handgun, and more than $50,000 in Canadian cash.

Two men were arrested, and both 19 year old Blake Burrows and 18 year old Zachery Edwards-Swanson are facing charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime. Burrows is also charged with possession of a controlled substance and obstructing a police officer, while Edwards-Swanson is charged with the unsafe storage and unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a restricted firearm.

Both men were set to appear in Grande Prairie court on August 29th.
