Weather delays Highway 43X roundabout construction

Drivers will have to wait a little longer to use Highway 43X again. Alberta Transportation says work building a roundabout with Range Road 63 is delayed due to weather conditions.

Range Road 63 and Highway 43X between Highway 2/Highway 43 and Range Road 63 has been closed since June 21st. It was originally expected the work would be done mid-August. The province says the intersection of Highway 43X and Range Road 63/116 Street should reopen to traffic September 8th.

Down the road, work continues at Highway 43 and Highway 43X. Traffic will stay down to one lane in each direction until further notice.

Construction of the Highway 43X bypass around Grande Prairie fully got underway in the spring of 2017. The Alberta government still says the $48 million is expected to take two years.

A portion of the bypass from the intersection of Highway 43 and Highway 2 west to 116th Street was finished several years ago. This project completes another 12 kilometres from 116 Street to Richmond Hill. It also includes three bridges to cross the Bear River.
