Storm off on first road trip of the season

The Grande Prairie Storm are heading on their first road trip of the season this weekend.

They’re facing off against the Lloydminster Bobcats tonight, and then the Bonnyville Pontiacs Saturday.

Coach Kevin Higo says after three weekends of home games, they’re looking forward to the trip.

“The guys are excited to get on the road together as a group; we haven’t seen Lloyd since exhibition when it was a different roster and we were a different roster as well. We’ve seen Bonnyville so we know a little about them. It’s been a good week at practice and we’re ready to go for sure.”

Higo says they want to get through September with this group, and see how they match up with the rest of the AJHL at a showcase next weekend in Spruce Grove before making more changes.

“We’re real excited about what’s gone on. The returning guys have been really good and the new guys are just excited to be here and excited to start a new challenge. Ultimately what we’d like to do is give this group a couple weeks, probably four or five games to work together and then we’ll make some evaluations after that.”

The Storm are currently fourth in the AJHL north, with a record of 2-2.

The Bobcats are 2-2-1 and the Pontiacs are 1-1-1.
