Nourish the North charity event cancelled

The Community Foundation’s premiere charity event Nourish the North that was set to take place in September has been cancelled by the organization. Foundation CEO Tracy Vavrek says cancelling the event was hard but will give the foundation time to focus on the future.

“Not having Nourish the North was a tough decision but we see the other work that we do and we want to strengthen those areas.”

The annual fundraiser raised money for the Community Foundation, which is a public organization that distributes money back into the community through different programs. Vavrek says she is thankful for everything the event has brought the organization over the years.

“Nourish the North has been an event that the Community Foundation has been very proud of and we’re very honoured with the tremendous support that we’ve had with the event… We appreciate everything that we’ve received but we need to focus our energies on specifically helping those organizations in the community that need help the most.”

The Foundation helps organizations like those that deal with literacy and education, homelessness in the community and those organizations that deal with seniors care. Vavrek says the Foundation can now focus all their efforts into helping those in the community.

“It’s important that we do the best we can to support these charities during the times when needs are higher as they are right now.”

Even though they have cancelled one event, Vavrek says the Foundation will still be hosting their Invest Northwest event in December.
