Charges laid in police chase with semi

A 36 year-old man from Grande Prairie is facing multiple charges including dangerous driving after leading police on a chase through the city on August 18.

At around 8:54 p.m. Grande Prairie RCMP received several complaints of a Bobtail semi truck driving erratically in the area of 71 Avenue and determined that the vehicle was stolen.

Police attempted to stop the truck but the suspect drove away through a playground and then through a field. RCMP continued to receive complaints about the vehicle driving dangerously through residential areas causing damage to several fences.

RCMP located the suspect vehicle in the area of 92 Street and 158 Avenue. They tried to stop the truck a second time but again it got away.

After a short pursuit through the Hamlet of Clairmont, the suspect drove through a fence into a field East of Clairmont and became stuck. The driver fled on foot, but was quickly caught by Police Dog Services and members of the Grande Prairie Rural and City RCMP.

Scott Mckay has been charged with numerous offences including dangerous driving and fleeing from police. Mckay will stay in police custody until his next court appearance on August 22.

Police continue to investigate and are attempting to identify all victims that had damage to their property related to this incident.
