MLA Drysdale honoured to continue as Minister of Transportation

Grande Prairie – Wapiti MLA Wayne Drysdale says he’s honoured newly sworn-in Premier Jim Prentice has chosen him to continue on as Transportation Minister.

He says he’s excited to continue with work already started, and to get his hands on some new projects.

“We’ve got lots on the go; we’ve got exciting things coming up that are already in progress. We’re wrapping up the twinning; they should be overlaying the bumps from Bezanson in, so there’s lots going on.”

He says the next work he’d like to see in the budget is on Highway 43X beneath the bypass around Grande Prairie.

Prentice’s cabinet is much smaller than Redford’s, with only 16 ministers and three associate ministers, which Drysdale is also applauding.

“I think you’re going to see a little leaner, meaner cabinet, a little quicker to respond. Mr. Prentice has lots of ideas, and you can see this morning, he’s made a critical decision to sell the government planes. That was an issue talked about over the whole summer and he fixed that in less than 24 hours.

Monday’s swearing-in ceremony was likely also a relief for Drysdale, as he had also been handling the Infrastructure portfolio for the summer after Ric McIvor stepped down to run for leader of the PC Party.

The Infrastructure ministry is now in Manmeet Bhullar’s hands, and now that he’s back to only having one portfolio under his belt, he hopes to spend more time in his constituency of Grande Prairie – Wapiti.
