Grande Prairie under severe thunderstorm watch

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the Grande Prairie – Beaverlodge – Valleyview region. Environment Canada says current weather conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

As of 7:43 p.m., Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing very strong wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain. This severe thunderstorm is located 30 km southwest of Rycroft and is moving southeast at 25 kilometres an hour.

Residents are reminded to stay indoors if there is thunder or lightning. Peace River – Fairview – High Prairie – Manning is under a severe thunderstorm warning.
