UPDATE: Pilot killed in plane crash east of Grande Prairie

UPDATE #2: The Transportation Safety Board has confirmed the pilot in the crash was killed. RCMP say the 43-year-old man from Saskatchewan was flying a Basic Ultralight plane.

UPDATE: RCMP have confirmed there was one person inside the plane when it crashed. Their condition has not been released.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has been contacted and will be conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash.

A small plane has crashed in a field east of Grande Prairie. Emergency services were called to an area off of Range Road 53 near Township Road 714 a little after 2 p.m. Tuesday.

County of Grande Prairie Fire Chief Dan Verdun says they responded to an aircraft down with a ladder truck, an engine truck, and a brush truck. A fire had to be extinguished.

Firefighters and RCMP remain on the scene. We have also reached out to Transport Canada for more information.
