Olympian to speak at Nourish the North 2018

An Olympian will be in attendance at this year’s Nourish the North fundraiser. Community Foundation CEO Tracy Vavrek says that this year’s speaker will be Canadian bobsleigh pilot Justin Kripps, who brought home a gold medal at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang.

“This year we are very excited to announce that we have Justin Kripps joining us,” Vavrek says. “For those of you who aren’t aware of who Justin is he landed top of the world this year at the Olympic Games… For him to get to that level we know he’s gone through some goal setting and he’s been through some ups and downs and he’s gonna share that journey with us.”

The annual Nourish the North Wine and Auction fundraiser raises money for the Community Foundation, a public organization that then distributes money back into the community through different programs. Vavrek says that each year the featured speaker at the event is hand-picked based on their background and experiences.

“The speaker is designed and selected specifically around looking at goals they’ve achieved or some challenges they’ve overcome and so they can bring a message to our community that we can share with all of our supporters.”

While in town, Vavrek says Kripps will also speak to students at Alexander Forbes School. Nourish the North 2018 will be held at Revolution Place on September 27 at 6 p.m.
