Tourism seminar aimed at new and experienced entrepreneurs

Organizers of an upcoming seminar hope to help people from Grande Prairie who are considering getting into the tourism business. Director of Business Development and Investment Attraction for Alberta Culture and Tourism Bruce Tannas says that the event was designed to help people new to the tourism business.

“This particular seminar is designed for companies in the formation stage whether that is from an idea point of view or recent business and was hoping to strengthen those businesses and help them become more successful.”

The Alberta government announced last week that it is bringing back the free seminar for six more dates after its first run was considered successful. Tannas says that the idea is to give people the appropriate information and tools to give their company a better chance for success.

“TESS was designed for people who might have an idea about a business that they would like to do in tourism, somebody who is a little further along and is in the process of forming a tourism company or someone who has just recently gotten into the tourism business in the last couple of years.”

The seminar will be broken into smaller courses that will talk about things like the background on the industry, finance and how to better market your business.

“I think they can expect to come out with a better understanding of the tourism industry and an understanding that tourism is a bit unique in the way that you operate,” Tannas says.

The free one-day seminar will take place at the ATB Entrepreneur Centre on August 23 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
