Peace Country under heat warning

The Peace Country is in for a scorcher weekend. A heat warning has been issued for both the Grande Prairie – Beaverlodge – Valleyview and Peace River – Fairview – High Prairie – Manning regions.

Environment Canada says the temperature is expected to reach 29 degrees or more during the day, and stay near 14 degrees overnight through the weekend. Cooler temperatures are in the forecast by Monday morning when a cold front will move into northern Alberta.

People in the area are encouraged to avoid outdoor activities when it’s hottest out, take frequent breaks from the heat indoors, and drink lots of water. People and pets shouldn’t be left inside a closed vehicle for any length of time.

Residents should watch for symptoms of heat stroke or heat exhaustion, especially in seniors, children, people with pre-existing conditions, outdoor workers, and people who are socially isolated.
