A new bridge could connect the Muskoseepi Park trails with the new hospital. A pedestrian bridge is proposed to cross the Bear Creek from Maskwôtêh Park to the grounds of the hospital.
The City of Grande Prairie will be hosting an open house to talk about the bridge’s design and construction. Project representatives and engineers will be at the meeting on July 31st from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Al Robertson Room at Centre 2000.
Project Engineer Daniel Dawson says plans are still in the works.
“At this point, we are in the engineering phase… the design of the pedestrian bridge is about 60 percent complete.”
Dawson hopes to incorporate a dinosaur theme to match the park and some kind of artwork into the bridge design to make it look unique. He wants to use the open house as a way to get the public’s input on the look.
“We’ll get feedback from the public and then go back to the drawing board and see what we can incorporate in the final design and hopefully it goes into construction this coming winter.”
There is no final estimate yet on the total cost of the bridge but Dawson estimates that the cost for engineering services will reach more than $130,000. The designs are scheduled to be completed by fall of 2018.
