Third consecutive rainfall record broken

The City of Grande Prairie has broken a rainfall record for the third day in a row. A total of 19.4 millimetres fell at the airport Sunday, unofficially besting the previous July 22nd record of 15.2 millimetres set in 1972.

Both Friday and Saturday saw record rainfall as well, with 30 millimetres falling Saturday and 19 millimetres Friday. Taking into account the 11 millimetres recorded Thursday, nearly 80 millimetres has fallen over the past four days.

The Town of Beaverlodge also set another rainfall record Sunday. 27.2 millimetres fell there, well past the previous record of 11 millimetres set in 2005. A record was also set Thursday and Friday, and Saturday likely also saw a record broken but Environment Canada doesn’t have the data available.
