Wildfire hazard drops to low

All of the rain in the forecast has dropped the wildfire hazard for the Grande Prairie region to low. There are still no fire advisories, restrictions or fire bans in place for the Grande Prairie Forest Area.

However, Wildfire Information Officer Crystal Burrows asks anyone who sees smoke or fire in a forested area to still call 310-FIRE right away. She says there have been 33 wildfires so far this season.

“Only six of these fires are a result of lightning, all others were human-caused and 100 percent preventable. Please do your part to prevent wildfires.”

That includes properly extinguishing campfires and not using fireworks and exploding targets in forested areas.
