New pedestrian signals on 98 Street downtown

A new set of pedestrian-controlled traffic lights is now up and running in downtown Grande Prairie. The signals are located on 98 Street and 101 Avenue at the southwest corner of the Montrose Cultural Centre block.

The lights will stay green for all traffic heading north and south, and will only change to red if a pedestrian presses the button. There are stop signs on both sides from east and westbound traffic.

The intersection upgrades also include street lighting and a pedestrian island. The city says they were installed to increase awareness of pedestrians crossing the four-lane intersection.
