Grande Prairie wildfire danger now moderate

The wildfire danger in the Grande Prairie Forest Area has risen to moderate. While no fire bans or advisories are currently in place, Wildfire Information Officer Crystal Burrows urges people to be extra careful in forested areas.

“This wildfire season the Grande Prairie Forest Area has had 31 wildfires, burning more than 13 hectares,” she says. “Only six of these fires are a result of lightning; all others were human-caused and 100 percent preventable. Please do your part to prevent wildfires.”

That includes cleaning debris from off-highway vehicle hot spots and getting a permit before doing any burning. Anyone who spots smoke in a forested area is asked to call 310-FIRE immediately to make sure firefighters can respond ASAP.
