The Alberta Urban Municipalities Association and the Society of Local Government Managers is recognizing the hard work of the administration for the town of Whitecourt.
AUMA President Helen Rice says they are being given the Dedicated Municipal Team Award.
“Their administration, and certainly Mayor Chichak, have been instrumental in setting the bar for other Alberta municipalities. I think Whitecourt has every reason to be proud, and certainly they’ll be a lot of Alberta municipalities looking at that model.”
Rice says the town has some really strong and unique operating models, such as their cooperation with the surrounding county, that make it stand out.
“They’ve taken the entire population of the region, and proportionately their county has 22 per cent of the total population, so anything Whitecourt builds, the county chips in 22 per cent.”
The award will be presented on September 23 during the President’s Dinner at the AUMA annual convention.
