City loses Community Living Director

The City of Grande Prairie is looking for a new Community Living Director. Koji Miyaji has left the position he has held since January 2015, saying he has been considering a change for some time.

“I realize my departure may seem abrupt,” he wrote in a message to city staff, “however, given [my] recent trip to Japan and the experience of the earthquake which my wife and I encountered, the decision to be closer to family has been further enhanced and expedited.”

In the meantime, City Manager Bob Nicolay has asked Arlen Miller to take over the role on an interim basis while the city recruits for Miyaji’s replacement. Miller recently left his position as Director of Community Services with the County of Grande Prairie to join the city as Infrastructure & Protective Services Deputy Director.

“We are fortunate to have leaders with the experience of Arlen available to step in to ensure a seamless delivery of the services our community depends on,” Nicolay says in a statement. “As a former RCMP district Commander, Director of Community Services for the County and most recently our Deputy Director of Infrastructure & Protective Services, Arlen has [the corporate leadership team’s] confidence to take on this important role.”

Nicolay declined to comment on Miyaji’s departure.
