Wildfire near Musreau Lake under control

The wildfire near Musreau Lake is now under control. Alberta Wildfire changed its status Friday evening and says crews will continue to remove whatever is burning in the area until the fire is fully extinguished.

The eight hectare blaze broke out six kilometres southwest of the lake on Wednesday, and it’s believed it was sparked by lightning. Numerous firefighters and heavy equipment were brought in to fight it.

The wildfire danger for the Grande Prairie Forest Area remains high. Wildfire information officer Kelly Burke says the region has had a couple days of very high fire weather.

“With so many lightning-caused fires occurring in such a short period of time in the North West Boreal region of Canada. It is important to limit human-caused wildfires.”

A fire advisory is still in place for the forest area, as well as the County of Grande Prairie and the MD of Greenview. Safe campfires are allowed.
