Grande Prairie region dealing with poor air quality

UPDATE: Environment Canada has ended the special air quality statement for the region.

Poor air quality is being reported in the Grande Prairie area. Monitoring stations in the city run by both the provincial government and the Peace Airshed Zone Association have the Air Quality Health Index pegged at a 7 as of 1 p.m. Wednesday, which is considered high.

Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for the Grande Prairie – Beaverlodge – Valleyview region due to higher pollution levels. It says the AQHI is expected to drop to 5, or moderate, tonight.

The index is 5 in both Beaverlodge and Rycroft currently.
