Search warrant leads to drug charges

A Grande Prairie man is facing charges stemming from a drug bust at a home in the city. With the help of ALERT and Police Dog Services, the local RCMP Drug Unit executed a search warrant at the home on Friday, June 15th, and arrested a man without incident.

Police say their search turned up 130 grams of cocaine, 17 grams of marijuana, and more than $15,000 in Canadian cash. A 19-year-old has since been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of proceeds of crime.

In a release, Grande Prairie RCMP say they are “committed to increasing community safety by using a crime reduction strategy that focuses on identifying repeat offenders, gathering intelligence and conducting enforcement initiatives.”

The accused will next be in court on June 25th. Anyone with information is asked to contact Grande Prairie RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
