Construction to begin on highways around Grande Prairie

Work is about to get underway on the Highway 43X bypass project. The intersection at 116 Street and 43X will be shut down as of Thursday.

The closure will also extend to the insection of Highway 43X and Highway 2 as well. This will allow for the construction of a roundabout expected to in place until mid-August.

East-west traffic will detour to 162 Avenue, 101 Street and 156 Avenue. North-south traffic will detour using Township Road 722.

More work will begin on Highway 43 Thursday as well. There will be traffic delays on Highway 43 between Range Roads 70 and 71, for construction of the Highway 43/43X intersection.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction in the westbound lanes during the first part of the project. Two lanes in each direction will be open in the eastbound lanes for the second part.

Traffic signals will be in place to control the flow of traffic.
