Heat warning issued for Grande Prairie region

The Grande Prairie – Beaverlodge – Valleyview region is currently under a heat warning. Environment Canada says temperatures are expected get near 29 degrees Celsius over the next week.

In Grande Prairie, the forecast is calling for a high of 29 Monday, 31 Tuesday and Wednesday, and 28 Thursday. Daily lows are expected to be 14 degrees or higher.

People in the area are encouraged not too spend too much time outside during the heat of the day and to take frequent breaks if outdoors. People should also drink plenty of water and not leave anyone or any pets inside a closed vehicle for any amount of time.

Residents should also watch for symptoms of heat stroke or exhaustion, including high body temperature, lack of sweat, confusion, fainting, and unconsciousness. Children, seniors, people with health conditions and outdoor workers are particularly at risk.
