Pride crosswalk burnout proves costly for driver

Doing a burnout on the Pride crosswalk has earned a driver a hefty fine. Just before 8 p.m. on June 14th, a witness reported to Grande Prairie RCMP that a Ford truck had left black tire tracks on the recently repainted rainbow crosswalk at the intersection of 98 Street and 103 Avenue.

Based on their information, mounties were able to find the truck, and the owner was issued two traffic tickets worth more than $800.

“RCMP members strive to ensure public safety would like to thank the citizens of Grande Prairie for their continued efforts to help solve crime within our community,” says Constable Melanie McIntosh.

This year’s crosswalk will be paid for by the Grande Prairie Pride Society, who will reimburse the City of Grande Prairie for the cost of materials. Volunteers helped paint the rainbow lines, and city staff checked in during work hours.
