City website trying to help new residents

A new website from the City of Grande Prairie is trying to make life a little easier for newcomers.

The site is for those that are new to Canada in general or those that are just new to the Grande Prairie area. GPimmigration.ca is also meant to be used as a resource by people who may be considering a move to the Peace country.

The information is divided up into three main sections; living, learning and working. It can also be translated into 25 different languages ensuring the most accurate information possible.

By accessing the website people can learn about the diverse offerings the Grande Prairie area has including educational opportunities, it can also help newcomers find a doctor or learn about job openings as well.

Blair Wade with the City of Grande Prairie says these types of centralized resources can be very valuable.

“The goal of creating this website was to create a portal to support newcomers immigrating to Canada, and specifically connecting them to services and resources that already exist within Grande Prairie. It really acts as an online directory so people can look up the topics they want more information on, and
learn who to contact directly in the community”

The website was a collaboration between the city and the Grande Prairie Local Immigration Partnership. They work to support Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada by developing community-based planning around the needs of newcomers.
