A Peace River Correctional Centre inmate has been flown home to Nova Scotia after he was severely beaten. The Edmonton Journal reports Dylan Gogan has been in a medically induced coma at the University of Alberta since he was attacked by three men.
Gogan was one of two people arrested after a stabbing in Grande Prairie on March 6th. He was charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault, as well as possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Corrections staff found the 28 year old unresponsive in his cell days later. Because he had spent much of the last couple of years in and out of correction facilities in Alberta, he wasn’t recognized as a Nova Scotia resident.
That meant his transfer to a hospital closer to his home wasn’t covered by the Nova Scotia Health Authority. However, following media coverage of the situation, he was put on a plane last week.
The Journal reports the charges against Gogan have been stayed due to his medical condition. His co-accused, 28 year old Stephanie Plamondon of Grande Prairie, is still facing attempted murder and aggravated assault charges.
