Residents help RCMP find suspect hiding under RV

Peace Regional RCMP are reminding residents not to leave their keys in their vehicles. The warning follows several crimes reported over the past week.

“By doing so, people engaged in criminal activity will not have quick access to a vehicle if they run out of gas in the vehicle they are currently driving,” says Staff Sergeant Brent Meyer in a release.

On June 1st, police were tracking an ATV and another vehicle that were reportedly speeding in the rural area of Marie Reine near Peace River. The ATV was found abandoned and the stolen vehicle ended up rolled over in a ditch.

Two people were arrested and stolen things were found.

The next day, officers heard about a possibly stolen side-by-side and gun from Girouxville. Witnesses reported the driver was in the Northern Sunrise County area pulling on vehicle door handles.

The UTV was seen speeding and driving dangerously in the Peace River area, and multiple attempts to pull the driver over were unsuccessful. With the help of residents, he was allegedly found hiding under an RV after the side-by-side rolled.

The suspect has been charged and things stolen from the Girouxville and Peace River area were seized. The gun has not been found.
