School zones officially back in effect this morning

Motorists in Grande Prairie are reminded that school is back in session today, which means school zones are again in effect.

From 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on school days, speeds are reduced to 30 kilometres an hour.

Authorities will be extra vigilant over the next couple of weeks to make sure drivers get back in the habit.

Last year more than 500 school zone speeding tickets were handed out in just the first two weeks.

Students at the Composite High will have to wait until tomorrow to claim their lockers, along with those at the new Charles Spencer High School.

Approximately one thousand teens are enrolled at the new facility, located next to the East Link Centre.

It was unveiled last month they’ll be known as the Mavericks.
