Remains found in fire now considered a homicide

RCMP in Fort St. John, B.C. are now investigating remains found in a residential fire as a homicide. The B.C. Coroners Service has identified the remains of John Banky, who owned the home in the Charlie Lake area.

Police were first called to the fire in the early morning hours on March 30th, and Banky’s vehicle was found on fire in a different part of the community a little over three hours later. Both fires were considered suspicious, and a Banky was reported as missing.

The human remains were confirmed to have been found in April. Investigators believe Banky’s death is a homicide, and ask anyone with information that could help the investigation to contact the Fort St. John RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
