Arrest made after assault with a weapon

RCMP weren’t far away when a fight involving a gun broke out in downtown Grande Prairie. Mounties were attending a service in Revolution Place around 1 p.m. on May 14th when they heard about two men fighting.

One of the men had crossed the street to get help, and gave officers a gun he had on him. He had reportedly taken it from another man who had assaulted him with it. He suffered minor injuries.

Police say they were able to find the suspect quickly and took him into custody without incident. After examination by police, the gun was determined to be an imitation.

A 39 year old Grande Prairie man is facing several criminal charges, including assault with a weapon and failing to comply with conditions. He first appeared in court on May 16th.
