Chamber finds new CEO

The Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce has found its new CEO. Tanya Oliver will be joining the organization from the chamber in Bonnyville, where she has served as Executive Director for the past nine years.

Grande Prairie Chamber Chair Cris Seppola-Podsada says they embarked on a long and thorough search, with a committee whittling down more than 80 resumes. She says she’s a proven relationship builder and a go-getter.

“When you’re hiring, you don’t always know what you’re going to get. I think that we were really fortunate with Tanya because not only does she have extensive chamber network knowledge, she actually has ties to the community.”

Oliver has a lot of family in the area, and attended both the Composite High School and Grande Prairie Regional College for Business Administration. She has some big shoes to fill, as she’s replacing Dan Pearcy.

Pearcy has been the local chamber CEO for the past 12 years. Seppola-Podsada says it’s hard to describe the impact he had on their operations and the community during that time.

“I think that anyone who knows Dan and knows the work that he’s done for the chamber and the community would say that he’s a major asset. Of course we’re sad to see him go, but his retirement is well earned and it’s always nice to have some new, fresh views within an organization.”

Pearcy will retire as of June 30th. Oliver will officially start mid-June, but she’s expected to take part in the Business After 5 Mixer at Centre 2000 on May 24th, and the 2018 Alberta Chambers of Commerce AGM following that.
