UPDATE: Fire destroys Cobblestone home

UPDATE: The Grande Prairie Fire Department says it was called to reports of the fire called in by neighbours around 4 p.m. By the time fire trucks arrived, the home was already fully engulfed in flames, which were threatening the houses next to it.

The strong winds at the time made fighting the blaze difficult, but Captain Rob Martin says they were able to put it out using an aerial master stream and a water tower from a ladder truck. The fire was brought under control
within 45 minutes.

Extensive damage was done to the home, and moderate damage to the neighbouring buildings. No injuries were reported, and the cause is still under investigation.

The Grande Prairie Fire Department was called to a fire in Cobblestone Tuesday afternoon. A large cloud of black smoke could be spotted from all over the city around 5 p.m.

The blaze seemed to be contained to a single family home on 90A Street behind the Shoppers Drug Mart. It was destroyed, while there looks to be some external damage to the neighbouring houses.

As of 5 p.m., the fire appeared to be fully extinguished, but firefighters were still checking for hot spots. There’s no word yet on the full extent of the damage or the cause of the fire. Friends of the home owner have plans to start a GoFundMe campaign.
