County campgrounds now open

The camping season in the County of Grande Prairie is now underway. The individual and group campsites at the Bear Lake, Demmitt, Hommy, Kleskun Hill, and Pipestone Creek Campgrounds are now open, along with the group sites at the Old Bezanson Townsite.

This is the second year that people have been able to reserve their site at Pipestone Creek online ahead of time. The County says last year’s pilot project was so successful they will be adding more power sites to the campground at the end of this season.

Parks and Recreation Manager Christine Rawlins says they are also making changes to Bear Lake.

“This summer we will be focusing on making Bear Lake Campground even more of a family-friendly ‘stay-cation’ destination through beautification and providing the facility with a bit of a refresh. The campground and day-use area are perfect for day trip picnics or a short overnight stay.”

People are also encouraged to take advantage of the lake for non-motorized activities.

Red Willow Park, Saskatoon Mountain Park, and Valhalla Centre Park are also now open for day-use. County campgrounds close on October 15th.
